There is a lot of confusion about the Tesal Semi so this webpage is going to be a spot I will use for collecting the factual info as I run across it. First, lets look at some basic specs:
300 and 500 mile range Semis are available
the Semi has 3 motors for a total of around 1,000 HP. See motors page for more info
Weight:20,000 lbs for the 300 mile option, 23,000 lbs for the 500 mile option
total allowed weight (Semi plus loaded trailer) is 82,000 lbs
Battery capacity of 500 mile unit is 900 kwh
Power consumption at max load is 1.7 kwh per mile...although that is expected to improve further
Tesla megacharger can charge at up to 2.4 MW adding 70% of charge in under 30 minutes
And yes, there are actual Tesla Semis that are in customers hands and have been put through a number of tests and even a contest between several makes of electric semi models. Here is an early test run of the 500 mile range model at 81,000 lb weight with change of elevation shown to give you an idea of regen capability as well:
